time to convert 146GB RAID1+0 to RAID5?

Hello,

An ML350 I inherited has a RAID1+0 on 2 146GB drives that is out of space. I'm adding 2 more identical drives and want to convert to RAID5. The box has the SmartArray 641 controller. How long should this conversion take?

Thanks in advance,

Stuart

Re: time to convert 146GB RAID1+0 to RAID5?

Hi Stuart,

The actual time taken depends on a number of factors however it is usually very slow. HP quote 15mins per Gigabyte as a guideline but this will vary.

The amount of cache on the 641 and whether you have the Battery-Backed Write Cache (BBWC) option installed will affect the rebuild as the process is very write intesive. Also within ACU the rebuild and expand priorities of the controller settings should be set to high to assist.

Download the ACU user guide from here for more information on the requirements.

I hope this helps.
