total of 3669352 KB as Physical Memory

our HP Proliant DL320 G4 had got 4GB RAM 1 x 1 GB RAM-Module by the time we installed Windows server 2003.
After upgrading the RAM to 4GB (2 x SPS-MEM DIMM, 2GB, PC2-4200), Windows can detect and show only 3,5GB in General system properties of My Computer and a total of 3669352 KB as Physical Memory in Task Manager.
In boot.ini no maxmem entry and we realy need a minimum of 4GB for Windows OS.
Only HP Management Agents and System tools are installed on the server.
Cisco (CiscoWorks 2.6) and Netowrk Instruments (Observer 10.0) are planed to (will) be installed.
What can we do so that windows will be allowed to use 4GB of RAM

Hi,

This question comes up quite frequently.

You probably need to add the /PAE switch to your boot.ini and make sure the BIOS on your server is up to date.

Hope this helps,

That is all about Windows.
You have to enable Physical Address Extension(PAE). This is done by entering /PAE switch into the boot.ini file.

And according to your needs you may also need /3GB switch (for ex: Sql server)

Check also the available free space of your C drive. IT must have min necessary free space for memory page file.

Thanks for the prompt reply.
adding th /PAE entry to boot.ini and ensuring that the server BIOS is up to date (D20 06/30/.2006), unfortunately, made no changes to the situation

Windows must see 4 GB memory if the boot.ini configured correctly.

Can you attach your boot.ini file?
