ultra scsi-3 usable?
I need to increase storage space in my 6400R and want to add part#176496-B22 which is a 36.4 gig drive. What I'm having a problem determining is if that scsi-3 drive will work in this server without adding any extra hardware?. I thought the 6400r only came with ultra scsi-2, but the specs on compaq's web site state that the 6400r has ultra-3 scsi.
Any ideas if the bigger scsi-3 drive will work?
Thanks

Re: ultra scsi-3 usable?
I've just upgraded 2 drives to Compaq Part #:188014-002 (18.2 Ultra 3 15K) and everything seems to work well with no modofocations. I'm sure your 36 GB U3 drives will be just fine
Hope This Helps

Re: ultra scsi-3 usable?
yes your ultra 3 drive will work but it will work at ultra 2 speeds unless A) your controller is ultra 3.. B) you are usng the ultra 3 cable...C) all the drives in your array are ultra 3.
ultra 3 and ultra 2 are interchangeable its just the u3's will downgrade to u2 if not all the above are met
