Are you talking about operating system installation page with "erase screen"?

IF so you can try to change the disk (if available) and try again?

and you can try another smart start cd. There can be a problem about the cd or cd version.

I changed another 146 Gb Hdd then to same problem, I also done the system erase , changed to scsi port2 and also checked with smart start 7.4.

Re: unable to format 146 Gb hdds

Does the server hang only on disk erase?
Are there any other process does the server freeze or hang?

It there is, that may be a RAM problem. You can try to change the DIMM modules.

If it freezes only on disk erase, and after you changed the disk and scsi slot it still continues to freeze, I think that must be about scsi controller hardware, firmware or driver.

You can try to format the disk with windows setup (by using windows cd not smartstart). But you must load the scsi controller driver with f6 when windows setup is about to begin.
