upgrade DL185 from 8 bay to 12 bay

I need to upgrade my Dl185 G5 from an 8 bay to 12 bay server. I have found this part 451369-B21 do I need anyhting else? I already have a p400 controller - Cheers

Hello there,
part number that you find is correct HP 12 Hard Drive Cage, FIO - 451369-B21, but there are some advices to keep in mind when this operation is required (pls have a look to the complete quickspecs of this machine: http://h18004.www1.hp.com/products/quickspecs/12864_div/12864_div.PDF )

Pls consider that:

- For 12 hard drive models, optical drive support is available via rear DVD cage kit (P/N 513168-B21). DVD Drive not included.
- Eight drive models cannot be field upgraded to twelve drive model. Fourteen drive servers available via CTO only - customer must begin with the selection of the 12 drive CTO chassis cage.
- The installation of a 12HDD Cage requires the addition of a Smart Array PX00 Controller or 4-port SAS controller that supports expanders.
- HP DL185 Rear DVD Cage Kit 513168-B21 NOTE: Used for 12 drive models. DVD Drive not included.
- Twelve 3.5" Hot Plug SAS/SATA Drive Bays
NOTE: As shown here, the rear hard drive cage replaces the two full-length PCIe slots.

thanks for the pointer. If I buy this kit 451369-B21 will I be able to fit it to my server which curently has an eight bay cage? I already have the upgraded P400 raid card

Pratically you need to replace it.

In order to use 12 drives you need to install 451369-B21 (and naturally the other p400 controller that you already have to manage the 2 disk "array")
