upgrading 9.1gb beige tray's to 36.2 gb drives
Hello,
I am wondering if it is possible to upgrade a Compaq 9.1 GB Hard drive (beige) tray, to a 36.2GB SCSI by changing out the hard drive inside the tray.
I have tried this, and the connections all fit, and the drive fits properly, but when I put it in the server, the drive spins up, and the controller reports the drive as ERROR. I have tried several drives, and several different trays.
The old 9.1 drive does not have any jumpers, but the new 36.2's do have jumpers. However the SCSI connector is the same on both the old and the new drive internally.
Is there a way to get it to work? Is there a certain jumper setting or is it not possible to upgrade old trays with new drives?
Thank you for your time.
Brian

Re: upgrading 9.1gb beige tray's to 36.2 gb drives
I'd strongly recommend using the Compaq version of the 1" 36.4GB drive (176498-B21) rather than trying to modify an existing tray. Remember that you'll probably lose pre-failure notification (SMART) functionality if you don't use the Compaq component.
