upgrading ml370 g2 to smart array 5i piggyback board

I installed a smart array 5i board into my ml370 g2 and its not detected in bios or windows. Tried reseating the board a few times but still no go. I dont think its a brand new board and i suspect it was DOA but is there something I might have missed? I have already flashed the bios with p25 5/1/04. :( any ideas?
