use hot swapdrives without array

hi,

I have bought ml330 g6 with builtin p410 raid card. i have created mirror with 2 drives. i have 2 drives spare but i can't see them in my device management also i don't want to create another array/mirror them as i would like to use them as separate data storage only.

any one knows how to achieve that... as my p410card doesn't allow me to do so...

looking forward to hearing from you..

as soon as possible.

many thanks.

Re: use hot swapdrives without array

Can you see the drives in ACU?

P410 should definitely allow more than 2 drives.

Re: use hot swapdrives without array

Hi

I can see unassigned drives but p410 card can only allows me to create another array i.e. Raid to add them as logical drives.

Actually, i don't want to do that. i want to use them as E:(250gb) and F:(250gb) separately.

if i don't do anything then i can't see them under device manager/storage devices.

if i create raid then it shows as logical drives, which i don't want.

i hope anybody has some solution to it...

lookign forward to hearing from you...

thanks.

Re: use hot swapdrives without array

Disks connected to a smartarray are controlled by this controller. You cannot see them from OS, you can only see LUNs provided by the controller.

Your solution is probably to create a RAID0 and present this to the OS.

Hope this helps!

Torsten.

Re: use hot swapdrives without array

Torsten is right on that.

You must create arrays, on the disks.

If you want them as seperate disks.
You must create 2 RAID 0.

ps.

You can do that online, using the ACU.

Re: use hot swapdrives without array

Hi,

i did that, as only that was the option available so i had to.... and i have lost 1 hdd storage space by creating mirror (Raid1). which i did not wanted in the 1st place.

Sometimes Having raid controller is not not a good choice.. .but i consider as a good option anything happens i have hope that i will not loose the data...

if any body knows the solution to it that without creating an array keeping drives on your raid controller and utilising all the space, please do let me know.

Many thanks.

Re: use hot swapdrives without array

If you don't want to use the RAID functionallity, then it is wasted.

If you want to have a RAID, then Hardware is the best choice (In my oppinion).

So you want to break the first mirror, that you createt into 2 separate disks?
The solution should be:

Re: use hot swapdrives without array

Why not creating RAID0, the controller supports this:

Hope this helps!
