Re: what do i need to install Linux on DL580
Go to http://www.hp.com/go/support, type in your model (like "Proliant DL580") and select "Download drivers and software".
Pick one of the supported Linux distributions... and you get a list of all drivers and other software that is available. If a RAID driver is needed for installing the OS, the instructions on creating the driver disk are available on the page. If you use a recent Linux distribution, the drivers are probably already included on the Linux installation CDs.

Hi Stephen,
Download Porlian Support Pack for Linux e.g. Red Hat
http://h18023.www1.hp.com/support/files/server/us/locate/1116_5928.html
You no need to start up ur Proliant with SMART start but the Linux installation direct then follow the intructions from the PSP and install it.
Remember create the SMART ARRAY driver (diskett) else later while u select drive for installation, it will prompt u no disk found. As Linux default driver do not support SMART ARRAY..
