what is single  bit error? why it occurs in memory?

Within each byte there are extra bits used for error detection and correction.  If a single bit goes bad, it can be corrected.

Errors could be due to cosmic rays or chip flaws.

Correctable errors are generally single-bit errors.
Uncorrectable errors are always multi-bit memory errors.
