win2k dual CPU - what is the correct HAL?
Hi, I have upgraded my 1600 to dual 550 PIII processors which the BIOS etc. appear to recognise. I have tried to get win2K to recognise the dual processors without success. Which is the correct HAL to use from this list?
ACPI Multiprocessor PC
ACPI Uniprocessor PC
Advanced Configuration and Power Interface (ACPI) PC
Compaq SystemPro Multiprocessor or 100% Compatible
MPS Uniprocessor PC
MPS Multiprocessor PC
Standard PC
I have tried both ACPI Multiprocessor and Compaq Multiprocessor and win2k fails to boot with either of them.
TIA
/Simon

I managed to answer my own question, but I did have to re-install windows :(
The correct HAL is MPS Multiprocessor PC

Re: win2k dual CPU - what is the correct HAL?
Hi there,
i've got a PL1600 with a PII 350 here and want to upgrade to PIII 500 (I got one Deskpro PIII 500 PCU lying around)After I upgraded the bios to P08, installed the CPU and put SW2 to 500Mhz it boots up and after counting memory it stops with:
Processor initialized at 500Mhz with 1024 Kbyte Cache (which is incorrect it has to be 512 Kbye Cache)
Unsupported Processor Detected
System halted.
Any ideas ?
greets,
Mark
