won't boot up.

i'm working on a retired server at work. i'm having problems bringing up the beast... i've taken memory from a compaq P90 and stuck it in there, and it still won't boot up. the drives seem to initialize fine, and i was told that it should work. just add memory. but i turn on the box, and i don't hear any sound, just the fans whirring... is this a memory problem?

Re: won't boot up.

I was having this same problem. To get the drives to spin up and to format them, you need the SmartStart boot CD from Compaq. I hope this helps.

Re: won't boot up.

You do not need the SmartStart CD to install the SCO Unix OS onto the system. You will boot the system with the SCO install CD, and link in the required Compaq drivers at the boot prompt. But first you must configure the system BIOS for a Unix install. Download and make the system configuration program disks from this web address.

http://www5.compaq.com/support/files/server/us/download/9180.html

Make sure you set the boot controller order and the processor APIC mode if the system has more than one processor. The booting controller must be first. The processor APIC mode must be "Full Table". Save the new hardware configuration to CMOS.

Next, download and make the SCO EFS disks from this web address.

http://www5.compaq.com/support/files/server/us/download/9096.html

See the last disk in the set for installation instructions.

Re: won't boot up.

Since you have not provide any Compaq serial number or part number information we can not determine memory compatibility. Please provide the 12 character serial number that is on the computer system and the 9 digit part numbers that is found on the memory modules, if it is Compaq memory.

Also see the QRG for the Proliant 1500 at this web address, for memory configuration and part number information.
