2GB memory modules in a ML350G4

According to the ML350G4 quickspecs, 2GB modules can only be placed in slots 1 and 2, when slots 3 and 4 are also populated with 2GB modules.
Does anyone know what the reason for this is or could be?
I've recently configured a ML350G4 with two 2GB modules in slots 1 and 2 and no modules in 3 and 4, and there was no indication of any problem with this configuration, after having run the Smartstart diagnostics and installing W2K, just for testing purposes.

I believe that means you just can not put 1 GB modules in those slots. So the memory configuration is smaller DIMMS then larger DIMMS

I agree with Todd.

if you had 1GB modules and 2 GB modules... you would put the 2GB dimms in slots 1 & 2 and the 1GB dimms in 3 and 4... the other way wouold not work as per the quickspecs.

2GB alone should work fine.

Re: 2GB memory modules in a ML350G4

Tnx for your replies.
We've got some info from HP (no definite answer though), in which it's stated that, when you have two pairs of different size, the smaller capacity modules should be installed in slots 1&2 (there's no mention of this as such in the quickspecs, strangely enough).
Hence it's not possible to install 2GB modules in 1&2, when you've also got two 512MB or 1GB modules.
