48 million Outbound packets per second

Hi,
I have a server who's primary NIC card reppeated dies (W2k Advanced Server HPNC7781.) It is un-pingable and will not work again until a reboot. I did some perfmon monitoring on it and at times the outbound packets will log up to 80 million outbound per second. I think that a poorly written app is causing the traffic to be so high and to kill the card. Other servers that I have monitored max out arround 2,000 OP per second. I just wanted to make certain that my diagnosis is correct. That number seems astronomical compared to our other servers and seems like it would be the culprit for the card dying. Cards aren't made to handle that type of traffic and thats no where near normal trafic is it? I can chart for a week or two and you can see the traffic systematically climb from a max of arround 2k until the server crashes between 48 and 80 million OP per second. I just wanted to hear from the experts before I jumped to any wrong conclussions.
Thanks!
