Adding an IDE Hard Drive to a Netserver E60

What do I have to do to add an IDE drive to my Netserver E60. I tried installing one and it was not recognized on start-up. Thanks, Shawn

Re: Adding an IDE Hard Drive to a Netserver E60

Shawn,

The E60 server was designed to use SCSI drives not IDE drives. While there is an IDE controller, it is only supported for the CD-ROM. The boot order in the BIOS is as follows: IDE CD-ROM, Floppy, Embedded SCSI A, Embedded SCSI B.

You can try installing an adapter card and change the boot order in the BIOS, but the only recommended adapters are the old HP NetRAID cards (which use SCSI disks).

Thanks very much.

I do not plan to boot from the IDE drive, I just want to use it for storage. There is an open IDE socket on the mother board. Is it worth trying to install it again?

Shawn,

If you are not planning on using it as a boot drive, it may work. It won't cost you anything to try so it may be worth it.

Please note that there may be some BIOS limitations on the size of the disk drive that can be reconginzed. Good luck.
