Booting from Proliant DL380 CDrom

I have an older Proliant DL380 G1, 1 ghz. It will not boot from the CDROM. I would like to get into the setup utilities, but they are not on the hard drive, nor do I have an OS on the machine yet. The manual says to create a boot diskette from the Utility download section, but I do not see any diagnostic software to install on a diskette. Can anyone help me configure the machine? I have another DL380 that I can boot from the CDROM and was thinking about using its hard drive. Is that possible? Thank you.

The server should boot from the CDROM by default unless it was changed.
I would swap the CD drives first....

Your boot order is probably has changed from factory default. You need to download 4 floppy images (Compaq System Configuration Utility
version 2.58 A from http://h18023.www1.hp.com/support/files/server/us/download/13227.html

You also can download Compaq System Erase Utility
version 1.70 A from http://h18023.www1.hp.com/support/files/server/us/download/17918.html and use it prior to starting new configuration.

do u have the smart start CD? get it and try changing the CD ROM driver. Boot with SmartStart CD and configure HW, then install OS...

Thanks for the pointer to the diskette images. The problem was a defective CDRom. It sort of worked, but failed the Compaq diagnostics. I had a smartstart CDRom, but could not use it. Thank again everyone.
