Compaq SmartStart
New to compaq servers - have a 1600 Proliant, Compaq SmartStart 4.4 that is a copy. When I place the CD in the server and reboot it does not read the CD. Is this normal? If I load DOS to the system then I can read the "E" drive and see the CD but how do I run something from the CD as it does'nt seem to have a 'setup' or 'install', etc at the root of the CD?
Thx
Thx

Re: Compaq SmartStart
It must work.
Try to download SmartStart 5.50 CD from HP site. Burn this CD image on low speed (x4).

The other way - use Compaq System Configuration Utility on diskettes:

Re: Compaq SmartStart
Igor,
Thx for your reply. Did exactly what you suggested, downloaded the iso image and burned at 4x. The cd is readable from my dell workstation just fine, but when I boot from it in the Compaq 1600 it doesn't seem to see it at all.
Have the sys config on the Compaq 1600 to boot from the CD, then A, then C drive but have tried other settings to get it to boot fromt the CD all to no avail.
When I load a dos folder on the Compaq 1600 drive I can boot to dos and see the CD drive that way fine.
Any help would be appreciated as this is been a super headache and I'm totally frustrated with Compaq servers and SmartStart CDs right now!!

Re: Compaq SmartStart
Hi,
1) Can you replace CDROM drive on the server?
2)Can you try to boot from OS CD (for example from windows CD)?
3)What exactly you try to do with SmartStart CD? Many things you can do by using SmartStart programs on diskettes
For example you can use "Compaq System Erase Utility" on diskette
http://h18023.www1.hp.com/support/files/server/us/download/17918.html
and after this install OS from OS installation CD.
Maybe you can open new thread with this question on Proliant servers forum as well
http://forums1.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/categoryhome.do?categoryId=264
(because many Proliant specialists don't see messages on Servers;General forum)
