Configuring ILO whilst server is on

Is there any way of configuring ILO whilst the server is operational without re-booting? Also if the tag has been ripped off is there a way of finding the username and password?

Thanks

Re: Configuring ILO whilst server is on

John,

the iLO can be seen as a separate processor/computer inside your server and can be configured/reset etc etc without the server knowning anyhting about it. It is a management processor and runs independent of the real server.

If you lost your user/passwd then the only way to recover is really to open the server and reset iLO security with a dip switch (look on cover which one it is) and then enter the new password via enter the RBSU at server startup.

Yes and yes.
hponcfg.exe is a command line(DOS)utility that allows you to interact (trade requests with reports and to also instruct/configure the iLO--most versions/releases) while logged into the server (as administrator).
It allows you to fully query and set the configuration of the iLO including the addition of an administrator account and password. It is normally installed when you Christen your server or apply recent updates for the software and/or firmware with PSP or the SmartStart CD. If it is installed on your system you will find it with this path: C:\Program Files\HP\hponcfg. Supplemental examples of scripts (xml) and documentation on how it works can be obtained at an HP support website. Good luck.
