Configuring server for tape backup use

I am going to purchase a DL380 G5 for use as a host for an MSL4048 tape library. How much disk space should I order for non-OS use? We normally figure on mirrored C: drive for Windows OS booting, then RAID 5 for other purposes. If we plan on doing disk-to-disk-to-tape backups, how much RAID 5 storage would be a good choice? Should I use just RAID 1 all around for its faster writes?
