DL360 G1 Locks up during Windows 2003 Setup

Hello,

I have a Proliant DL360 Dual CPU 1.2GHZ machine. I am trying to load Windows 2003 standard on this server. The setup locks up when I get the message "Windows is starting up".

Okay, I upgraded the Bios to version 4.11 P21-11/15/2002. I also downloaded the latest drivers on a diskette for 2003 for the Smart Array Controller. I pressed F6 when the setup asks for custom drivers.

My first dilemma was which driver to pick. There are three.
1. 5300
2. 532i or something
3. 6i or something
I am not exactly sure which driver is user by the builtin smart array controller. So, I tried all of them one by one. Basically, none of them worked. The setup hung exactly at the same point.

I was wondering if I could get some pointers please.

Regards.

Hi.

None of the above controllerdrivers are right. On DL360 an integrated array controller is build in aon the mainboard, the driver you need should be this one:

Try removing the second cpu, get through the install, then once everything is installed, put the second cpu back in

I had the same thing happen to a DL580G1, it would hang at the text phase of the setup program with the message "Windows is starting up". This happened on 2k3 and Win XP. Run the smartstart CD and run the program that clears the NVRAM, reboot, reconfigure the array and start installing windows!

Re: DL360 G1 Locks up during Windows 2003 Setup

I am having the same lockup problem as Ash stated above. This is a DL360 (original beige version) using the integrated array controller.

I have run the system erase utility as suggested (clears NVRAM, etc), and I have tried loading several possible Array drivers, including what should be the correct one for this box:

HP ProLiant Smart Array-2 Controllers Driver for Windows Server 2003
version 5.14.0.0 G (13 Apr 06)
http://h18007.www1.hp.com/support/files/storage/us/download/23395.html

It still hangs at "Setup is starting Windows" during the Server 2003 install.

Are there any other suggestions?

This problem I fixed by setting in the bios the APIC to "full table mapped".

You need to access the bios after the smartstart cd has run.

Once in the bios use "alt or ctrl" + "A" to enter the advanced mode.

There you will find the setting.

Has anyone tried the BIOS APIC setting from Martin ? does it work ?

I also tried pressing F7 at setup and choosing "Standard PC". It completes the setup but does not recognize the 2nd CPU after its all setup.

Installed the latest Bios 11/15/2002 and use the Integrated Smart Array Controller diskette via F6.
