DL360G5+NC360T=RegularReboots

Since I put an NC360T into a newly built DL360G5 (which already has an dual transceiver on-board NC373i) the server's rebooted itself three times. (The 373's and 360's ports were merged into separate teams, and each team member was plugged into a separate redundant switch.)

Windows recorded (102) Event 1003 in the event log and a stop code of 0x1000008e, kernel mode exception not handled: bad driver? Bad Ram? The server wasn't plugged into the Internet before this happened: so I don't think its i386p or the rootkit Microsoft mentions on their site.

Downloaded a fresh copy of the driver; between the second and third reboot and that didn't seem to help.

It's stayed up over the weekend, unplugged on the bench.

First day I plugged it in, it dumped twice, 7 AM and 11AM. So, I put in a different NC360T, and it dumped within the hour.

Been fine since August 28, so far.

I'm going to update the firmware with the fabulous HP CD.

Any ideas?

Is there anything in the IML (Integrated Management Log)?

Re: DL360G5+NC360T=RegularReboots

Well, I'm seeing a couple of Stop Messages: Bugchecks codes 1A, D1 and 8E, and a slew of adapter link downs, grouped around certain dates. Unfortunately, some of those are today and yesterday

Re: DL360G5+NC360T=RegularReboots

Is the DL360 G5 running Windows Server 2003, x86 Edition or Windows Server 2003, x64 Edition?

Re: DL360G5+NC360T=RegularReboots

Well, it's a G5 using an Intel 5150 64-bit processor but I've loaded Windows Server 2003 x86 web edition.

Sorry I've been away so long. I was out of the office.

The next to last System BIOS contained critical fixes:

Re: DL360G5+NC360T=RegularReboots

I fixed my server up using the firmware CD 7.90 dated 3 Aug 2007. It updated the p400i SAS controller, but left the mobo's BIOS at P58 5/1/2007. Is the the card's firmware I should be looking at?

Re: DL360G5+NC360T=RegularReboots

It sounds like you've already updated the system BIOS to a suitable version. I glanced through the revision history of the NIC models firmware, but nothing jumped out at me. One other thing I checked was the rev history of the relevant NIC drivers and the NCU (Network Configuration Utility), but I saw nothing special.
