DL380 G2 External VHDCI w/ DLT Autoloader on RH linux

Just got an Overland LXLS DLT library that i hoped to connect to our DL380 G2's exteranal scsi connector.

I'm running RH8.0 with the cciss driver on the 5i Array Controller.

cat /proc/driver/cciss/cciss0
cciss0: HP Smart Array 5i Controller
Board ID: 0x40800e11
Firmware Version: 1.80
IRQ: 3
Logical drives: 1
Current Q depth: 0
Current # commands on controller: 0
Max Q depth since init: 64
Max # commands on controller since init: 64
Max SG entries since init: 31
Sequential access devices: 0

cciss/c0d0: 17.35GB RAID 0
(HP CISS Driver (v 2.4.42))

On another unit with a 20/40 DAT driver running
echo "engage scsi" > /proc/driver/cciss/cciss0
made the unit visible on the scsi chain. Not so here.

"cat /proc/scsi/scsi" just shows me "Attached devices: none"

A call to HP support tells me the external connector doesnt support tape autoloaders. ??! i'm skeptical to accept this. i guess the more appropriate answer is the cciss driver doesnt support autoloaders... but i'm just perplexed why the device ID's wont even show up on the scsi chain.

any insight? i tried loading the "st" modules in 2.4.20-8 kernel- but no luck.
even if the HP support answer is true- any recommendations for PCI controllers? the library will be the only thing attached so only moderate bandwidth is required.

thanks.

Do you know if the Duplex Option Kit is installed? If so you can't use the external SCSI connector.
