DL380 G3 Drive Performance

we just reloaded a DL380 G3 server, got all the drivers installed for Windows 2000, and have been doing some benchmarking tests on the server..

Unfortunately we are only seeing a write speed on the drives around 8MB/sec, and read of around 300MB/sec.

any idea what could be the problem with the write speed of the drives ???

Re: DL380 G3 Drive Performance

Is the BBWC (Battery Backed Write Cache) installed and enabled (battery charged)? If not, you'll see performance degradation on writes.

Re: DL380 G3 Drive Performance

actually we don't have a battery installed on it.. so we had to order one..

therefor, the write cache isn't enabled right now.

but shouldn't se still see speeds faster than 8mb/sec.

hp testing/results state 300mb/sec on the drives we have.

Re: DL380 G3 Drive Performance

Assuming the firmware for the drives, Smart Array 5i, and driver for the Smart Array 5i are up to date, the next step would be to check the SMH (System Management Homepage) for individual disk errors. Navigate to the SA-5i, and you'll see the disks and their individual error conditions.
