DL585 G2 - Memory configuration
I would like to know what is the best memory configuration for this server, http://h10010.www1.hp.com/wwpc/uk/en/sm/WF06b/521-525-358263-358263-12083473-12846180-77950055.html (This is the link to the specific server in mind.).
The DIMM's I got to work with is the original 8 x 1 GB DIMM's and additional 12 x 2 GB (6 * PC2-5300 2x2GB Kit Partnr: 408853-B21)
What is the best way to distribute the memory? I have two ideas myself and the first one is my favorite.
First idea:
CPU1 - 4*2GB = 8GB
CPU2 - 4*2GB = 8GB
CPU3 - 4*2GB = 8GB
CPU4 - 8*1GB = 8GB
Second idea:
CPU1 - 4*2GB = 8GB
CPU2 - 4*2GB = 8GB
CPU3 - 2*2GB+4*1GB = 8GB
CPU4 - 2*2GB+4*1GB = 8GB
Or am I totally wrong?
Thanks for all who read this for taking your time, and a special thanks for those who reply.
PS I have no idea what the server is for, the only thing I do know is that the memory should be spreed evenly among the CPU's

Re: DL585 G2 - Memory configuration
Thx for your reply.
Lucky for me that I saw the quickspec wasnt for a G2. So I found it myself. Thanks for the nudge though.
So what you are saying is that both configuration isnt wrong?
I talked to a co-worker and he said that the server work faster with many smaller DIMM's than larger fewer DIMM's, is this really so? I thought it was the other way around. If this is the case then perhaps I should put 8*1GB on the CPU1 cause it will probably be the hardest working CPU.
And yet another aspect is what if they want to upgrade?
Thanks again for wasting your time. :)
