HP E50 and aic78xx error in Event Logs
I have an HP Netserver e50 in our production environment. Our operators have been reporting numerous error message of the following in the NT (4.0 SP5) event viewer:
Source is aic78xx, Event ID 9
The device, \device\ScsiPort1, did not respond within the timout period
From our previous NT Administrator, I found the following email regarding the above message:
The aix78xx messages on ServerName are from the SCSI controller- it is also a message to be ignored- it indicates a minor timing problem but the only resolution is a new level of firmware- which is not available and probably will never be b/c it is an older model. The aix78xx messages appear frequently but are harmless as well.
Does anyone know if the above response is true? Is there anything I can do to eliminate the message or should I instruct the Operators to ignore it? Any help would be appreciated.
Personal Disclaimer: I'm brand new at networking and NT/2000, so I'm learning "on the job" and by "trial and erro". That's our training program right now. Feel free to speak to the lowest common denominator - I won't be insulted, it will probably help!
Thanks!
Denise

Re: HP E50 and aic78xx error in Event Logs
I need to add the following:
The current SCSI driver reported through HP Top Tools is from 4/29/1999 (I didn't see a number for the driver).
Also, the message from our previous NT Admin was dated 1/8/2001.
