HP netserver LH 6000

In HP Netserver LH 6000, there is HP netRAID 4M Controller card and on this card the External HP Surestore Ultrim 230 LTO Drive is connected.

The Operating System is windows 2000 Advanced server. The LTO Drive is not get detected and we can not take the backup.

The same was working earlier when the OS was NT 4.0

Kindly advice on the same.

Re: HP netserver LH 6000

Mahesh,

Never, never, never, connect a tape drive to a NetRAID Controller. Tape drives are not part of a RAID array and therefore do not belong on a RAID controller. The LH6000 has a separate SCSI port on the back of the server but I don't know if this will be good enough for the LTO. You're best bet is to connect it to a separate PCI SCSI Controller such as an ultra-320 SCSI Controller.

First, see if there's a PCI SCSI controller already installed and try it there. If not, see if there is an external connector in the SCSI knock-out panel and try it there. Otherwise, a new controller is in order.

Hope this helps,

Re: HP netserver LH 6000

On Server backside I have not seen any Onboard SCSI Controller.

My question is "How it is working when it was connected to HP NetRAID controller externally backside when OS is windows NT 4.0"

Is it compatible for windows 2000 Adv server?

But when I conenct it on Integrated controller as interbally , it works fine.

Kindly suggets did i require for to upgrade firmware of HP Net RAID 4M Controller card?

Re: HP netserver LH 6000

Mahesh,

I'll say it again; NEVER connect any device to a RAID controller that is not participating in a RAID configuration, regardless of whether or not it ever worked. There is no firmware in the world that will change this fact. RAID controller are for RAID Arrays ONLY. If it works on the embedded SCSI Controller, use it.

Hope this clears things up for you,

Re: HP netserver LH 6000

Mahesh:
There is a SCSI controller integrated on the motherboard for the lh 6000. The LH 6000 does not come with the external scsi connector actually connected. However, it does include an external connector inside the machine (If you pull the side panel off, you can't miss it). Connect the cable to the botherboard (it's labeled on the motoher board "Ext. SCSI"), and route it to an external port. It will work fine with an LTO drive... I've used it.

I agree with the previous post-- NEVER connect a tape backup to the 4M. If it works, it's just an act of God, and your tape backup will croak very very soon.
