Hang on Smart Update Manager - Firmware maintenance CD

Hey everybody,
I have just downloaded the Firmware Maintenance CD version 7.90.

I am running the CD in Offline mode on a ProLiant ML530 G2 (booted off the CD) and it's 'hanging' on step 2 of the process that says "Check System for installed items". I have left the server for a good 10 minutes and ended up pressing the Cancel button.

I have confirmed that the CD is OK by running it through on another server (also an ML530G2) with no problems.

Has anybody seen this before or have any ideas as how to overcome this issue?

Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks and Regards,
Phil Persson

Re: Hang on Smart Update Manager - Firmware maintenance CD

Hi Phillip.

Try removing any 3rd party hardware that you may have and test.
Also try clearing the NVRAM and then test.

Re: Hang on Smart Update Manager - Firmware maintenance CD

Hey Iynk,
Thanks for the responce.

The server does not have any 3rd party hardware in it. It's only HP hardware.

I ended up downloading the earlier maintenance CD (7.80) and that ran through OK with no problems.... Strange...

Anyway - The firmware is pretty much up to date now, so I think we are good.

Thanks again,
Phil

Re: Hang on Smart Update Manager - Firmware maintenance CD

Hi Phil,

It is strange, as it did work on another ML530 G2 fine.

Another suggestion to updating almost all the firmware to the latest is by using the firmware maintenance CD 7.80 and use the "Add Supplemental" button located on the bottom left.
You can download the individual offline firmwares for your HP hardware from this link and place it on your removal device.

Else depend on your OS you can install the latest by doing it online.

The only problem with attempting to flash all the firmware online (within Windows) is that the firmware updates for the SCSI disks can't be performed.
