Help. DL380 G3 SmartArray5i Raid expansion problem

I have Proliant DL380 G3. 2 raids (Raid1(2disks) and RAID5(3disks) are built on Smart Array 5i raid controller. All disks are 72,8GB UltraSCSI 10k. But now I've bought 72,8 15K and when I try to expand the raid5 using new disk it says that there are no spare disks. But I can build new raid on it.

Please, can someone advise smth about this issue?

The new drives need to be electrically installed, either in the system or in an external array cabinet, and hooked up/visible to the 5i controller, before you can add them in.

My advice, since you've got a full house in the server's main housing, would be to chase down an external cabinet. They tend to show up at used computer places and on Ebay.

Happy hunting.
