Installing P-III Slot 1 933MHz on ML370 fails

Yall

I am trying to boost my old P-III 677MHz to a pair of 933MHz processors. Upon installing the procs and trying to power on, the fan would run for 1/2 second, then stop, then wait for about 2 minutes and repeat the whole process. The POST would not complete and the box would not power on. I reinstalled the 677 and it works fine.

Anyone knows the trick to install the pair of 933??

First of all try to update firmware.

Also all processors in Proliants came with their own PPMs (VRMs). Did you have this power regulation modules? I'm not sure about compatibility of 677 and 933 MHz PPMs.
933MHz/133MHz FSB Pentium III 256K Option Kit (Includes PPM) have PN 161086-B21.

I bought the CPUs at Ebay and they came from a Proliant server:
Pair of matching Pentium III 933MHz Processors Pulled from working machines
Fully tested and in great working condition

Both come with heatsink!!!

The VRM is also from Ebay as defined below:

Possibly they interchangeable

However, you should have one original, did you tried to change Switch settings and Test with one CPU? See attachment from Previous POST

I looked for 329267-001 seems it used only with 100MHz front BUS where possibly 100MHz CPU runs at higher voltage than 133MHz CPU

1.72v or 1.65v?? Could be reason?
Please reply if you got luck using 329267-001 in your system

Back from vacations & holidays :)

I have not tested under 1000 anymore and will do a manual config on the switches.

I needed to remove the heat sink for reasons of positioning and tested the cpu up to post w/o the HS .. would that damage the CPU? Of course, it did not work (fan ran for 1 sec, then stopped for some, ran again for 1 sec, and on and on ..)

Hey there, I actually had this same problem just about 2 weeks ago.

I bought a pair of 1ghz off of EBay, with the VRM's. I slapped both of them in, and the system would post and get all the way to attempting to boot from the CD, and then reboot suddenly.

When I reinstalled the single 667 it booted fine. So, I installed each new 1ghz processor, one at at a time. The first on lit right up, no problems.

The second one caused the system to behave exactly as you describe. Fan on, runs for perhaps 3-4 seconds, fan stop, machine dead and attempts to power itself back on after about a 20 second wait.

Diagnosis? One of the new processors was DEAD. Ebay seller was a good guy and guaranteed no DOA, so he quickly shipped me a replacement with the same stepping code. Stuck it in and we're golden.

I'm guessing one or both of your new processors is dead. You can determine if it is the VRM by simply swapping your new second VRM with existing working VRM in slot 1. Then try each new processor one at a time with the known working VRM.

EBay sellers love to say pulled from known working, but I most of the big PC junkyard sellers don't really have any idea of the history.
