ML330 G3 Windows 2003 service pack issues

I tried to apply service pack to Windows Standard 2003 Server and lost all network connections and had to uninstall. Is there a known issue when applying service pack1 and service pack2?
I read that Bios need to be flashed before applying service pack on HP servers, but not sure if this is correct/safe?
I will appreciate any advice.

Could you please explain a little bit about loosing network connections:

a) Are your TCP/IP settings are messed up ?
b) Does your computer complains about Network Card Driver (Computer->Devices->Network) ?
