ML570 G2 - smart array 642 - expand volume w/ new drives
Hi,
We're running out of HD space on our server:
ML570 G2
Windows 2000 Server
smart array 642
If 2 new drives are added to the 2nd array controller, is there an easy way to get the volume on the first 4 drives to expand over the new drives?
Thanks for any help,
john

Re: ML570 G2 - smart array 642 - expand volume w/ new drives
I'm not 100% on windows 2k, but in Windows 2003 you simply:
Connect the drives
"Extend" the array in the Smart array config utility
Make the drive "dynamic" in windows disk mangement, then "extend" or add the new space to the existing drive.
Please be aware you CAN'T do this to the "boot" drive in Windows. If you C drive (or whatever letter you boot from) is full you have to create a new drive letter and move data to the new drive letter.
