Microserver Gen8 shutting down due to P222 getting to hot

Microserver Gen8 was shutting down due to the P222 Smart RAID controller  getting to hot.

iLO showed a temerature of 105C degrees before shutting down, it took about 15 min to reach that temperature and reoccurred after every boot after cooling down.

After taking the heatsink off and applying new thermal paste (something I hated to do to a new controller)  I've finally found what caused the issue... It's the iLO firmware version I was using. I was running the latest version 2.73,  but after downgrading to an much older version 2.55 my issue was solved. It's running stable at around 68C now.

I'm now left with a working system, but the heatsink rivets are a bit lose. If you don't toch the controller it should be fine, but the heatsink might come off when you remove the controller... Any suggestions how to solve this? Are these standard size rivets? 3.0 or 3.18 mm diameter?  Any other suggestions?  HPE?

Not sure what firmware revision changed this behavior. Hope this will be fixed in an iLO firmware update.

Just upgraded back to version 2.73 and the temperature stays stable at around 70C now. Seems the reinstallation of a iLO firmware solved the issue. Looking back I should  have tried that first, but not something you would expect.

Temperature of the P222 seems to stay around 70C degrees now, but I'll keep an eye on it.

I've copied and pasted the last items in the iLO event log, there a lot more of these messages.

Unfortunately the problem came back. The system time was set back to 04/04/2019 after swapping the system ROM (one of the things I tried to resolve the issue was swapping ROM's to the backup one). After setting the correct time  in the system setup (F9) the problem came back.

I've rebooted the system before after the problem seemed to be resolved, but the temperature stayed ok after those reboots. It reapeared after changing a setting (the date and time)in the BIOS.

Very strange.... Really hope this can be resolved...

I found a workaround and it's working normal again.

The only way to resolve the issue is to downgrade the iLO firmware to version 2.50 (2.55 and above won't work, I've tested them), then set all the wanted settings in the BIOS (F9) and then upgrade to the latests version of iLO software (2.73 currently) and don't touch the BIOS again. 

Could someone from HPE please look into this and fix this in a new version of the iLO firmware?

It took quite some hours to figure this out, did this earn me a new P222?  
Mine now has a heatsink that is a bit sub-optimal and has  endured quite some heat during the hours of troubelshooting...
