Microserver Gen8 with P222 and Storageworks 1/8 G2 with 1760 SAS Drive
Hello together!
I hope someone can help me here.
I have a Microserver Gen8 with a P222 Raid Controller inside with 4 3TB SATA drives as Raid5. All working perfectly with Server 2012R2.
Now I am planing a backup system. I have a quiet old Storageworks Autoloader 1/8 G2. I am planing to place a LTO4 SAS drive in it taken from an MSL2024.
First question is - will that work?
What kind of cable (Partnumber and/or description) do I need? Mini SAS, 8087, 8088 or what? I am confused a bit when I am reading information in WEB.
Where can I get possible firmware updates (if needed) as a private person?
I hope someone can help me!
Kind regards
Lutz

Re: Microserver Gen8 with P222 and Storageworks 1/8 G2 with 1760 SAS Drive
Hello,
With regards to compatibility we should be checking the quickspecs for the particular storagework prodcuct to determine what are the supported HBA , server and the SAS cables.
https://h20195.www2.hpe.com/v2/getdocument.aspx?docname=c04123270
According to Microserver Gen8 Quick specs LTO 4 SAS is not listed as supported option.
https://support.hpe.com/hpsc/doc/public/display?docLocale=en_US&docId=emr_na-c03793585#N101AC
With respect LTO 4 SAS interface type is uses following:
https://support.hpe.com/hpsc/doc/public/display?docLocale=en_US&docId=emr_na-c01446208
SAS internal: Mini-SAS Small Form Factor (SFF)8482
SAS external: Mini-SAS SFF8088
Hope this helps,

Re: Microserver Gen8 with P222 and Storageworks 1/8 G2 with 1760 SAS Drive
Hello McCoy!
That was quite helpfull for me.
But another question:
If I use a p222 and SATA drives are connected internal is it possible to connect a library (MSL2024 with 2 LTO4 SAS drives) externally with a fanout cable (AN975A)?
With kind regards
