Microserver (N54L) not booting?

Hi all,

I've bought a G7 N54L second hand - it has 3 drives but had no RAM so I bought a single 4GB RAM and have installed that (while unpowered).  On power-on, the fans spin, the power LED is green, the HP logo is red, and there's no display (no signal detected) on the attached monitor.

Have I bought a pup, or is there more troubleshooting I can do?

Cheers!

Pippa

Are you sure it is the proper memory type? This system requires Unbuffered ECC  memory

Re: Microserver (N54L) not booting?

The seller assures its the correct type.  I've ordered another 4Gb from a different supplier just in case, which should arrive tomorrow.

This auction is for a 4GB Kit (1x4GB) ram upgrade for your HP Proliant MicroServer.

The ram is suitable for the Turion II Neo N40L & Athlon II Neo N36L & N54L

Both these MicroServer run with ECC unbuffered Ram, so this definitely the correct type.

SPECIFICATIONS

  • PC3-10600E
  • 1333Mhz*
  • DDR3
  • CAS-9
  • 2Rx8 (Dual Rank)
  • ECC
  • UNBUFFERED
  • 240 Pin
  • 1.5v
  • Equivalent HP Part Number: 593923-B21
  • Module Capacity: 4GB
  • Module Quantity: 1
  • 12 Month Warranty
*The MicroServer itself only runs at 800Mhz

Re: Microserver (N54L) not booting?

While I wait for the new RAM to arrive, I've tried:

  • remove the 3V battery for 20mins+ - no effect
  • replace the 3V battery - no effect
  • remove RAM and unplug drives (no other connections in chassis) - no effect

the result of each test was the same, the fans spin, the power led goes from amber to green, the hp logo goes red, no beeps, no display.
