I just bought an used proliant ML 370, 1Ghz, 512MB RAM, 1x 9GB SCSI HD Server from an online shop.
Unfortunately they sent it without any config CDs, so now I am stuck, setting up the server.
After booting the server, he says there are 0 Logical Drives, and "Slot 1 Drive Array Not Configured
No drives detected".
I have the option to press either F1 to continue or press F10 to enter System Partition Setup.
By pressing F1 and having Win2k CD in CD-Rom Drive, Win2k Setup starts. But when it comes to installing Win2k, setup says it can't find any installed harddrives. Umh.
By pressing F10 the server says "The EISA Configuration Utility is not installed on the fixed disk.
Insert System Configuration Diskette ..."
Well, so far I tried several tools which I downloaded from the drivers section, but only one worked: Upgrading the BIOS from a 2001 Version to a 2002 Version.
I now wanted to download the latest SmartStart CD, but unfortunately I got no CD Burner here at company. So I'll go back home now, download it there and try if I get it working with this CD.
This is my first experience with servers, so please be patient ;). Am I on the right track to get this server working, by using the SmartStart CD?
Thanks for any advice,
Sascha J├╝nglin

Re: ProLiant ML 370 Harddisk problem (no OS yet)
http://h18004.www1.hp.com/support/files/server/us/subscription/PSM_subscription.html
You might be able to configure with Floppy diskettes if Controller listed here
http://h18007.www1.hp.com/support/files/proworkstation/us/download/8605.html
if Controller listed than you have to start from SCU kit
http://h18007.www1.hp.com/support/files/server/us/download/13227.html
Or Update Integrated Array Controller to 1.50 firmware and use F8 from POST to Configure Array Configuration instead SP6263. Use only SP19619 and F8
after Direct Install 2000 and PSP 7.10

But it's not a MUST to use the SmartStart CD? Because I actually don't want to order one for money... :)
Fine, tomorrow I will be at the company again. I'll try your suggestions then.
Thanks!

Re: ProLiant ML 370 Harddisk problem (no OS yet)
I installed that array Controller Utility, but somehow it only detects an SMART-2/P Controller, but I've got an SMART-2DH Array. There's no possibility to choose another one.
Regarding the Windows Patch: This is only of use, when Windows is already installed, right? Because I just saw that the whole package got updated. There's also the availability to download single program parts out of this package... Maybe I'll have success if I use any of those?
Actually I am pretty desperate now... I hope you can help me.
Thanks in advance,
Sascha J├Г┬╝ngli

Re: ProLiant ML 370 Harddisk problem (no OS yet)
Probably you know more, and could deliver me a direct link to that program, without needing to subscribe that CD?
Thanks,
Sascha

Re: ProLiant ML 370 Harddisk problem (no OS yet)
However I understand that you got O/S installed
I'm confused with - Controller Utility Version?
If you looking for Updates, main points System ROM, PSP 7.20, Firmware for Storage Controller and any other Optional devices if Installed
http://h18023.www1.hp.com/support/files/server/us/locate/20_1119.html
Also if you select Software - System Management scroll down see Version Control options

Re: ProLiant ML 370 Harddisk problem (no OS yet)
No, I do NOT have O/S installed - I just have this System Partition with the System Configuration Utilities.
When I start installing Win2k, it tells me "No harddisks installed", only option I have then, is to abort installation.
Well, my mistake, I think I meant "Array Configuration Utility", not Controller Utility ;).
Regarding that PSP 7.20 thingie: Well, I can just install it, if Windows is already installed, right? Or can I use this package even without an O/S?

Re: ProLiant ML 370 Harddisk problem (no OS yet)
Now, after the first part of Windows 200 Installations, the PC reboots and then SHOULD continue with the installation.
But he doesn't. For a moment it says "Could not open boot partition to check signature"
And then the installation process starts again over and over.
Any ideas?

Thank you very much, KOV! Thanks for your patience and your help.
Now, I just should install that Win2k Service pack, you told me some posts above, right?
Great, thanks!! :))
