Problem adding USB 4.0 PCI card to ML350 G3 running Windows 2003 Standard

I have tried two PCI based USB 2.0 expansion cards now, both based on the Via Chip-set and both gave me the same error. After adding the card, the system senses that it's there and installs appropriate drivers from the OS. If I attach a La Cie 2D terabyte drive to it, and try and access the drive I get a Blue Screen Hardware Fault. On the first card which was a PPNA 4 USB 3 Firewire interface card it would take about 5 minutes of heavy data transfer to the drive before this happened. The second card was an HP 5 port (2 USB, 3 Firewire HP Part# P8319AA#ABA) and it faults immediately if you access the drive. Has anybody had ANY success in adding a USB 2.0 card to a ML350 G3 and if so what card did you use?

I am running Windows 2003 Standard (not R2)with the latest HP Support Paq installed on the system.
