Proliant 1600 (P08) boot and other problems

Hi,

Proliant 1600 (P08) with a boot problem.
I have installed te letest BIOS for the Proliant 1600.

Now when I boot up I get a choice:
F1 - Continue
F10- System partition utilities.

After I press F1 and I have for example a Boot CD or boot floppy in my system. It will take about 10 minutes before the OS that is on the boot disc is executed.

Also when using SCU I get a message that something is wrong with the Harddrive's.
An error occured while trying to acces the fixed disk. Run the config utility to try and correct the error. If this does not correct the problem your your fixed disk may have a physical error.

The disks are brand new by the way.

Is there a kind of manual on how to install the Proliant 1600 with Windows 2000 starting from scratch?

For example, I have new Hardrives in my smart arry 221 Controller. So I am missing my (BIOS) partion on the Harddisk. How can I create this.

you can also get into the BIOS (SCU) using this download

And booting from the disks it creates. But if you want to create the SCU partition you will first need to create an array on the SA221. That can only be done with Array Configuration Utility from SmartStart 5.50. Do you have any SmartStart CDs around? Newer than 5.50 will not work.

But there is usually a reason for getting the F1 prompt, and the 10 minute wait is also unusual. Do you get any other POST error messages?

Hi Stephen,

Yes since today I get some post errors
172 and 162.
The system hangs on Scanning for SCSI Devices....
And it does not start up any further.

I have checked the Battery it still gives 2.8V but on the battery it selves it say's 3V mabey I should replace this first.

I don't know, my whole system hangs now.
I am not able to boot up from a disk or CD.

Hi,

those errors mean it's lost its configuration info in NVRAM. It may have something to do with the battery. You should also try reseating all boards (proc. board, I/O board, memory, PCI boards) and checking all cable connections. If you have anything connected to the onboard SCSI controller, disconnect it to see if you get any further.

Jurgen, did you try to install the previous BIOS version again. I know I had a similar problem with a ML110. Installed the latest version and the system couldn't find the HDD's anymore (in BIOS everything showed up perfect). I installed the previous version and everything worked great again. PS for a ML110 it's not easy to install a previous version, but it can be done.

Hi Ron,

I used stevens tip.
On the SCSI bus there was nothing connected.
I disconnected the cable from the board and booted up.
Then the BOOT sequence passed through the SCSI device check.
Then I used the SCU to setup my BIOS again.
Installed the SMART array and created an ARRAY.
Then I reconnected my SCSI cable and voila.
This was running again. Without any POST bios messages.

But all my old problems are still there:
- A late reaction of the HD's when booting
- An error occured when accessing the HD, see first message.
- I still am not able to create a partition for my BIOS
