Proliant 1600 and Windows 2003

I had no problem getting Win03 to install in the NIC card but I just noticed after everything is done and the machine is back in production that only one processor is being used. I have read some postings here about this issue but can't seem to find anything that ever said the multiprocessors issue ever got solved.

Something about ACPI Uniprocessor or MPSтАжand searching for the correct driver -- but hpw does one search for this? Windows 2003 does not offer a complete list of drivers onlu Standard PC.

Any help would be really appreciated

Since you have no option upgrading to a faster CPU than 333 MHz PII you will sadly have to switch back to Windows 2000 (if you want to use both CPUs).

Re: Proliant 1600 and Windows 2003

It is already a dual 600 mhz with 1gb of RAM and both a RAID 5 and RAID 1. It seems like such a waste that HP is not supporting Win03 on these old work horses. Because of the way 03 handles multi-threading it really is a much better OS for these older machines that Win2k ever was.

Dual PIII should be supported.

It is not really expensive to buy used parts on ebay. ;-)

Re: Proliant 1600 and Windows 2003

I agree, the cost of this hardware is cheep on ebay but I already own it so it is even cheeper. My machines are about five years new. That is not very old in my book.

Thanks for the posting about the setting in the BIOS. I will try it late today on a spare machine (one of four of our servers).

It is really to bad HP does not want to support this basic sort of stuff. The Win03 OS really does run much better on older hardware and for non-profits, small business and other low budget opperations, yesterdays machine are very affordable and sometimes the only solution. That is true in our case!
