Proliant Microserver Gen8 frequent rebooting - faulty PSU?

Hi all

I'm running FreeNAS on my HP Proliant Microserver Gen8 - G1610T 2.3ghz.

In recent months, the server has been restarting itself on a frequent basis at least a few times a week if not more. I didn't do any changes it just suddenly started happening. There is absoultely nothing in the O/S logs and folk on the FreeNAS forum are guessing it could be a PSU issue, apparantly there are some PSU issues with this model?

Anyway, is this a sympton of PSU issue? Is there anything I am able to do to further diagnose?

 Thank you

Jamie

Check the server IML and iLO logs and see if any information is being logged

Re: Proliant Microserver Gen8 frequent rebooting - faulty PSU?

Hello! Thanks for your reply.  It seems I may have located the errors which relate to this issue. Have you seen this before?

Critical System Error 09/02/2016 21:17 09/02/2016 21:17 1 Unrecoverable System Error (NMI) has occurred. System Firmware will log additional details in a separate IML entry if possible Critical OS 09/02/2016 21:17 09/02/2016 21:17 1 User Initiated NMI Switch

The above is repeated numerous times in the last few months.

I have the HTML log/diagnostics file outputted by the server but cannot upload html files to this post.

Thank you

Nothing whatsoever in the OS logs at all, which makes me think it's not an OS issue :/

Re: Proliant Microserver Gen8 frequent rebooting - faulty PSU?

Any other ideas? Do I need to buy a whole new server?

Thanks

My Microserver Gen8 has the same problem, "user initiated nmi switch", no more detail info, frequently.

I'm having the same issue, happens several times a day.

Found a user advisory from HP stating that this issue would be fixed by a firmware update - I've updated to 2.50 and it's made the problem markedly worse.

What did you update to v2.50?  The latest system firmware is dated 2015.11.02 (B)(24 Oct 2016). The latest Intelligent Provisioning image for Gen8 Servers is v1.64b. v2.50 Intelligent Provisioning is for Gen9 Servers
