Proliant microserver gen8 - data recovery

Hello everyone,

I have a proliant microserver gen 8 that is totally dead. I'm not be able to turn on it again. I want to get back the data inside the raid 5, configured with PCI card smart array p410. I have some questions:

It is possible to use this smart array card with another PC or NAS?
Otherwise how can i recover the data?
There is a way to find new mother bpard for my NAS?

Many thanks for your help

Hi,

P410 constoller is supported on G6 and G7 servers so you can try to move drives to any G6/G7 server with same controller and check.

If logical drive detected, enable it from SSA then you should be able to access your data.

However, since server is currently dead i am not sure Hdd and data on the drives are intact.

also as i understand P410 is not supported with Microserver gen8, was it working before ?

Sudhir

Re: Proliant microserver gen8 - data recovery

Hello Sudhir,

thanks for your reply! I was be able to install a p410 pci controller and make a raid 5 configuration.

So the only way to recover the data is to use another HP device?
At the moment I'm not be able to attach the drives to another HP server.

Probably the only way to recover those datas is buy a new microserver gen 10 and access the raid 5 from it right?

 Thanks for the quick reply

Re: Proliant microserver gen8 - data recovery

Hi,

Microserver gen 10 ??

No, its fairly new server where as P410 is quite an old controller so it may not work.

Any G6/G7 generation server (which has P410) controller will be suggested , (only for this purpose).

This is one of the way i would say,

Alternatively you should contact any data recovery vendors.

Sudhir

Re: Proliant microserver gen8 - data recovery

Consider to get another Microserver Gen8 or maybe a ML110e Gen8, not really expensive.

Hope this helps!

Re: Proliant microserver gen8 - data recovery

Hello Torsten,

thanks for your reply, The ML110e Gen8 is really the cheaper choice on the market, if it work with p410 array card i can get the data back pretty easily, do you think could works?

Many thanks,

Re: Proliant microserver gen8 - data recovery

The P410 is not a supported option for any Gen8 server.

But obviously it worked for you. So if it worked in a microserver, it will likely do the same in the ML110.

Just take care, there are servers with SFF disk slots and servers with LFF slots. You will need the LFF slots in order to insert your disks. You should install them in the same order.

The smart array P222 or P420 would be supported.

I have seen them used for less than 50$.

Hope this helps!
