RAID 5 Hardisk failure

My DL 350 G5 servers with 4*146 GB harddisk.First 3 HD in RAID 5 with hotspare, suppose if any of the harddisk fails hotspare will be used instead of that automatically right ? my doubt is how to rebuild the RAID to the initail stage after replacing the faulty one ?

after replacing the faulty one suppose its in second bay, will the first 3 be in RAID 5 and fourth one go back to hotspare position ?

Re: RAID 5 Hardisk failure

Subash,
You are correct that the hot spare disk will take over if one of the raid drives fail. When you replace the bad drive it will put it back in the raid and return the hot spare.
