Raid Backup restore

Is it possible to back the raid configuration on an Ultra 3 SCSI Raid controller in an ML570 and restore onto a Smart Array 6i in a DL380 and then move disks over in the correct bays.
This is a theoretical question for a client, I am having to assume that there are no more than 6 drives in the ML570.
From what I can tell both servers have 1" drive bays.
Thanks,
Ian

Re: Raid Backup restore

Ian:

If the RAID controller in the 570 is not a Smart Array Controller, it is not likely that you would be able to restore the config.

Additionally, you would need to install the Smart Array drivers and add the 6i Registry key to the system (assuming your running windows) before you can even attempt moving the drives.

It might be easier to ghost the drives, move them, config the acontroller and restore the image.

Re: Raid Backup restore

Many Thanks Steven. I am pushing our client to backup his SQL databases from his old server and restore to his new server, rather then what he see's as 'just moving the disks over'

Your answer is all the ammo I need,

Appreciate the help,

Ian
