Recreate Logical Drives(RAID-5) on Proliant ML350

I have a HP Proliant ML350 Server using SmartArray.

I have 4 harddisks in the server with the following settings

Logical Drive 1
Slot 0 - Raid-0

Logical Drive 2
Slot 1 - Raid-5
Slot 2 - Raid-5
Slot 3 - Raid-5

Recently, the server was taken down for testing and the original harddisks were removed. I plugged a new harddisks into slot 4 and found that the system automatically removed all the original logical drives and created a logical drive 1 for the new harddisk.

Here is the question. What should I do to get back the data from the old harddisks? Do I just plug them in and recreate the logical drives? I am afraid that at the time of creating the logical drive would erase all the data(information).

Please help. Thank you.

Shut down the server.

Remove all the new disks.

Power on the server, and allow the Smart Array controller to detect that the logical drives are now missing/absent. If prompted, save the configuration.

Power off the server.

Insert the original disks into their original slots.

Power on the server, and the Smart Array controller will read the configuration from the disks.

The server should continue POST and boot normally.

I just want to make sure I full understand what you said.

>Shut down the server.
>Remove all the new disks.

So here you mean the disks that I try to perform server testing.

>Power on the server, and allow the Smart Array controller to detect that the logical drives are now missing/absent. If prompted, save the configuration.

To my understanding, this is basically erasing all the logical drives from the SmartArray?

>Power off the server.
>Insert the original disks into their original slots.
>Power on the server, and the Smart Array controller will read the configuration from the disks.

So the RAID information is also stored on the disks. As long as I plug them to the correct slot, there should not be any problem?

>The server should continue POST and boot >normally.

Thanks. I would consider to give it a try. Thank you.

Hi Steven,
Did the procedure work? I'm trying to solve a similar problem.
