Servers Not Rebooting after Power Failure

We have a number of ProLiant servers (various models) connected to rack-mount APC UPS's. Following a major power outage over the weekend, some servers powered themselves back on when powerer returned, but tha majority stayed turned off.

What do I need to change to make them return to their previous power state when power returns? I assume this is a server settings, as the UPS's performed fine.

Re: Servers Not Rebooting after Power Failure

Hello Keith,

Perhaps a Power Manager software would do the trick.
From HP:
1.Rack and Power Manager(I think this can be used with a HP UPS)

Check with APC or their website if there's a similar management software?

Re: Servers Not Rebooting after Power Failure

The APC softwar eis already configured to not chang ethe state of the server.

I therefore assume that there is a setting someone for the server that specifies what state it goes into when it loses power.

All servers are running the same APC software, configured the same way, and some start back up, but others don't.

Are the linux boxes not coming back or is it MS?

All the boxes are Windows 2000 or 2003 server.

No pattern to those that come on and those that don't. They share the same UPS's, have the same APC software and config.

That's why I thought there may be a BIOS setting or similar to tell the server what to do when power returns.

Hello Keith,

AFAIK,not aware of BIOS setting related to this.
Is the UPS able to bear the load?

Re: Servers Not Rebooting after Power Failure

UPS's take the load fine. And when power failed, issued the shutdown command successfully to all connected servers.

Then when power returned, only some of the servers powered back on. Others just sat their until their power button was pressed.

Hmmm,whats the server models?
ML/DL/BL or mix?

A mix. Some ML, some DL.

The ones that came back on were also a mix.

Re: Servers Not Rebooting after Power Failure

Seems there is a BIOS setting as well as a Group Policy setting.

Time to do some maintenance!
