SmartArray 5i - Change RAID0 to RAID1?

Hi,

we have got a HP DL380G2. There is just one 36,4 GB HDD installed which is part of a RAID0.
OS on it is W2K AS.
Because of fault tolerance reasons we'd like to install a second HDD.
Is it possible to change the existing RAID0 (with just one drive) to RAID1 so that I can add the 2. HDD to that RAID1 without the risk of dataloss?
Thanks!

Hi,

a single disk is only a JBOD. ACU should allow you to create a raid 1 set without loosing data.

Re: SmartArray 5i - Change RAID0 to RAID1?

Stefan,

It might say RAID-0 but one drive cannot be set up this way. RAID-0 means ""to stipe" for performance but of course it does not provide fault tolerance.

I do not anticipate you loosing data but please be sure to backup before you make the RAID change. Once you make the change to RAID-1, verify that the data is intact. If a problem exists, you can then restore the data.

Re: SmartArray 5i - Change RAID0 to RAID1?

I know this is an old thread, but so is my server.

To do this you:

1: expand array
2. add new drive
3. migrate array to raid 1
4. accept changes
5. pray

Is that correct?
