Re: URGENT!! - ML150G5 - 8 long beep when power on - no video

This sounds like bad RAM to me.

Reference this article where, after having additional RAM installed, the system beeped 8 times upon startup as well.

One other note, this could be a RAM configuration issues as well, where the RAM is good, but the way it is installed is bad. (That is if you recently modified the RAM).

Re: URGENT!! - ML150G5 - 8 long beep when power on - no video

Hi Wade, thank for your reply.

The server worked regularly for one month with following configuration:

Slot# 1,2,3,4 with DIMM 512MB
Slot# 5,6 with DIMM 1GB

Total ram = 4GB

Now, there is only 1GB DIMM in slot #5.

This could be a problem ?

Thank you

One question more... :

If I would to upgrade the server ram at 6GB, can I install 2 dimm x 2GB instead of the 1GB ?

Thanks

Re: URGENT!! - ML150G5 - 8 long beep when power on - no video

To answer your last two questions:

1. Yes, having only 1 GB of RAM in slot 5 and nothing in slot 6 might cause a system error, as it is not in conformance with system memory rules. In general, memory should be installed in matching pairs.

2. Yes, you should be able to install 2 GB X 2 DIMMS in slots 5 & 6 (2GB RAM in slot 5, and 2GB RAM in slot 6).

Please refer to this page before you make any changes, however, for the official documentation on this subject: http://h18004.www1.hp.com/products/quickspecs/12901_na/12901_na.html#Memory

Hope this helps,

One other note, for the memory you install in slots 5 & 6, make sure it's Single Rank and not Dual Rank. Single Rank means the memory chips are only on one side, as opposed to both sides of the module.
