USB External Hard drive. Proliant 5500 Windows 2000

Hello

I am trying to install a TEAC HD3U-120 USB 2.0 External hard drive on a proliant 5500 running windows 2000 SP4. As the server has no USB port I installed a 4 port PCI card. This one works fine. I tried it with a USB memory.
I aldo tried the hard drive on a desktop and it works fine. When I turn on the HD I get a blue screen And I have to reboot. When I reboot I get another Blue screen. The error is Stop: 0x0000000A ....... IRQL:NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

The hard drive installation guide says it is compatible with W2000 and do not need drivers. Can anybody give a clue on how to install it? Or what the problem might be?

Hello Raoul,

Not too sure if USB works on old servers.
However try these and see if it makes a difference.

1.Change USB option to Legacy USB in the BIOS.
2.Install latest Sysyem ROM and PSP

I Updated my server and it still does not work.
The server does recognize the USB ports and I can connect a USB memory and use. It is when I turn on the HD when I get the blue screen.

When you installed this USB card did you go to the F10 - System Configuration Utility (Cmos for the server)

- once you install new hardware you have to boot to the bios so it will update your IRQ and resouces for that device; basically it will add the pci card to its hardware list so windows can communicate with it properly.

- Device driver communicates with HAL
- HAL communicates with Bios
- Bios allocates IRQ and resouces for this device so software can communicate with it.

- if you don't have the SCU installed on the server harddrives ; you can download it from HP site.

I have been trying for hours to figure out what you just explained to me. Just let me ask you something. You mentioned this folowing NOTE.

How can I be sure the utility is not installed? At this time upon reboot F10 has no effect, but please give a more precise form to find out if you please.

Hi Raoul:

if the F10 has no effects then the utility is not installed.

- If you try to install anything to do with the EISA parttion after your o/s or data has been installed it will wipe out your data it is like delpart.

- The F10 SCU is the bios for the server and it resides on the first 20-35mg parttion of the hard drive. before the C:\ partion. it will show up in windows as EISA parttion.

- Since the server dosenot have Bios (cmos) on the system board chipset; HP has installed it on the harddrive using the smartstart assisted install or from sp19619.exe.

- If you don't have it installed on the hard drive then you will have to run it from the smartstart 5.50 (boot to it) or from floppy sp19619.exe.

- I hope that this explains it.
