Win2003, Proliant 8000, and SmartStart

Compaq documentation indicates that 2003 server is supported on a Proliant 8000, and that SmartStart 5.5 should be used to install the OS. However, there is no option to choose Server 2003 during SmartStart 5.5, only 2000 and NT. If I choose 2000 and proceed I can get as far as the prompt asking for the 2000 cd to be inserted. If I put in the 2003 CD, it just keeps looping and asking for the 2000 CD.

I suppose that since the disk arrays are now configured, I could just boot to the 2003 CD and install the OS. But I am concerned that whatever files were used from the SmartStart 5.5 CD are specific to Win 2000. What is the correct way to install Server 2003 to a Proliant 8000 using SmartStart 5.5?

Thanks,
john

OK, no help with that question, how about this. Is there a forum specifically for questions related to SmartStart?

Re: Win2003, Proliant 8000, and SmartStart

Hi john

I've installed a 2003 enterprise server on a proliant 5500R using smartstart 5.3 and everything worked fine. As option I've choosen "Windows 2000 Advanced Server" and the setup started without errors. Hope that helps.

Hi John,

I just remarked that I forgot to state the important part of my reply;-)
In SmartStart you have to choose "manual installation" to install MS 2003 Server.
This way it should work.

Re: Win2003, Proliant 8000, and SmartStart

Thanks for the info. Before I saw this I installed Win2000 with SmartStart, then upgraded to 2003 Server, then installed PSP 7.10. Seems to be working OK. Its to be a test system so if I have to reinstall I'll try it your way, it shold save me a few steps.

Thanks again
