lh 6000r with 900 mhz processors-- whats the dip switch setting?

I just purchased a few 900 mhz xeons for my lh 6000r netserver. All same stepping, 2 meg.
whats the proper dip swtich settings?
(the machine came with 700 mhz processors).

According to the Support Manual, the 900Mhz processors are not supported on this server.

Hi James:

I know you can use the 900mhz on that server
- because HP had an upgrade kit for the 900 and also that was the only processor available a while back.

I will try to find the dip switch setting for you and let you know.

as far as the manual and all hp docs I could find; only dip settings is for max of 750mhz xeon.

900 MHz P3455A Pentium III XEON / 2mb Cache
exchange # P3455-69001 PIII XEON900

Best regards,

Tarek.

Found it:

here you go:

- HP Netserver LH 6000 - 100 MHz FSB

Off on off on

Same as the 700mhz xeon setting.

Good luck.

Tarek.

Hi James,

The document Tarek sent you looks a little off to me. I know it's an HP doc but it should not be the same setting for the 700MHz and the 900MHz. If you convert the switches to binary values, it would seem that the correct setting for 900MHz would be 1-Off 2-Off 3-Off 4-On.

Try them both and let us know,

Re: lh 6000r with 900 mhz processors-- whats the dip switch setting?

Ok-- I tried the settings.
At the 700mhz settings, nothing-- red LEDS on the face.
At 0001, I get green lights, but no boot.

Curiously, on the faceplate, no matter what settings I use, the chips still come up as 70mhz, A1 stepping. I've flashed the lh6000 with the most recent bios.

Any other ideas?

Re: lh 6000r with 900 mhz processors-- whats the dip switch setting?

ok-- after doing more research, I THINK I have the answer.

Correct me if I'm wrong (I'm not sure about this), but the 900 mhz processor came in two different flavors... 5/12v and 2.8 (lv) mode, correct?

Further, I'm pretty sure the netserver takes the 2.8 volt flavor... and, of course, I purchased pulls from compaq machines.... 5/12 volts...

So unless someone tells me I'm dead wrong, I'm going to suck it up, swap the heat sinks back onto my 700 mhz chips, and put the 900 mhz ones on e-bay...

anyone have any 900mhz xeons they want to sell me? :-)

Re: lh 6000r with 900 mhz processors-- whats the dip switch setting?

Guys-
I can now confirm that HP is correct.
The Dip switches for the 900 mhz processor are identical to the dip switches for the 700mhz processor.
So, if you're interested in doing this upgrade, update your bios, buy the processors, and the slap them in. They're automatically recognized as 900 mhz.
