proliant 6000 extermal tape drive config

I am trying to add an external DAT24 tape drive to a proliant 6000. The OS is sco 5.4 .The drive was working on a proliant 1600 with no problems.
When I try to get it to work on the 6000 with mkdev tape I cant get it to work.
I am thinking it might have something to do with the bus # does anyone know what bus the external scsi port on the 6000 is?
any help would be appricated.
this is a production machine and I only have a small window each day to make config changes

Hi, do you see if external device is recognized physically? dou you any other device connected at the same SCSI port? if so, check if both has same ID. If hardware does not recognize appropriately, OS either..
give me result...

Re: proliant 6000 extermal tape drive config

the drive is being recognised buy SCO with its own scsi id. There is an old internal tape drive with an id of 2. the drive I am puting in has a id of 6. I just cant figure out with host adapter to use and what bus the external scsi post is on.

thank you for your responce
